Haynes and Boone, LLP Reduces eDiscovery Costs for its Clients with Iron Mountain eVantage Solution
Adoption Reduces Risks and Increases eDiscovery Efficiencies
Boston (May 4, 2010) - Iron Mountain Incorporated (NYSE:
IRM), an information management services company, today announced that
Texas-based law firm Haynes and Boone, LLP has implemented the Iron Mountain eVantage solution as a firm-wide
eDiscovery platform to manage client data and reduce costs associated with the growth of electronic
information in litigation and regulatory matters. Iron Mountain’s eVantage™ solution helps law firms, enterprises and
litigation service providers lower eDiscovery costs by providing on-site
processing and early assessment capabilities to reduce the amount of data
requiring attorney review. When it is
time for substantive legal review, the eVantage solution can seamlessly feed
the information to Iron Mountain’s Stratify Legal Discovery® Review solution, a cloud-based review platform.
Haynes and
Boone already employed extensive technology to provide cost effective, expert
legal services to its clients around the world. But as eDiscovery became a part
of most matters, the firm sought a new approach for managing large volumes of
unfiltered and duplicative client electronic data that must be assessed and
prepared for attorney review. Working with the Iron Mountain eDiscovery team,
Haynes and Boone developed a workflow using the eVantage solution to intake, analyze,
and reduce the number of responsive documents needing attorney review. Prior to
using the eVantage solution, either the firm or a third party vendor would
process a much larger volume of documents for attorney review.
“Even though
we are still in the implementation phase of using the eVantage solution the
firm has achieved measurable improvements in how it manages client data,” said
Thom Wisinski, Chief Knowledge Officer at Haynes and Boone. “In one of our
first matters using the new workflow, we reduced the review data by 83 percent,
resulting in significant cost savings for our client. Even technology-challenged attorneys now use
eVantage analytics such as metadata-based search, domain-name filtering, and
email-thread analysis to quickly analyze data and manage potential risks.”
Haynes and
Boone selected Iron Mountain’s eVantage solution to support its strategy for
managing client data because of these benefits:
- Significant
Cost Savings. Case teams at Haynes and Boone are now able to
control processing costs for their clients by efficiently reducing the amount
of data for legal review. And review
costs are lower because lawyers spend fewer billable hours on the culled-down
data. First-pass review and strategy development happen much faster with
sophisticated filtering,
culling and analytics applied upfront.
- Easy Access to the Data. Haynes and Boone case teams can easily
access the data on site in case the scope changes and they need to check for
additional responsive documents. Attorneys can perform this work as a case
evolves, with no additional burden to the client.
- Legally Defensible Approach. The eVantage solution’s culling and
analysis process, along with reporting capabilities provide a defensible basis
for potential legal challenges down the road.
Attorneys using eVantage
analysis capabilities can validate that a collection was properly done, or
sometimes find gaps to address. They can also filter out documents or eliminate
duplicates and have an audit trail with updated eVantage filtering, matter
processing and exception reports.
- Efficient
Work Flow. The substantive
review phase is more efficient with the eVantage solution’s seamless transition to Iron Mountain’s
Stratify Legal Discovery® hosted review. Review attorneys can re-use eVantage
work product such as privilege tagging so attorneys don’t review and tag
documents a second time. Tagging done in eVantage can also speed review
workflow and assignments. In addition, eVantage exports to other review
platforms if preferred.
Iron Mountain uniquely delivers
end-to-end eDiscovery solutions consisting of Connected® Classify & Collect, simplified laptop and desktop data
collection; NearPoint, on-site content archiving; eVantage, on-site data
reduction and analysis; and Stratify Legal Discovery® hosted review and
production services.
“We are very excited that Haynes and Boone chose Iron Mountain eVantage for its
strategic approach to managing client eDiscovery costs and data,” said T.M.
Ravi, chief marketing officer at Iron Mountain Digital. “Our enterprise clients
tell us that controlling eDiscovery costs has become a top priority with the
exponential growth in electronic content, and that they expect their law firms
to find ways to lower eDiscovery costs. With its adoption of Iron Mountain
eVantage, Haynes and Boone is at the forefront of meeting this challenge.”
