Iron Mountain Adds X-ray On Demand to its Health Information Services
New Offering Scans and Digitizes Analog X-ray Films; Sends High
Resolution Images to a Hospital’s Picture Archiving and Communications
System; Frees up Valuable Hospital Floor Space
November 21, 2005
Boston, MA - Iron Mountain Incorporated (NYSE:IRM), the
world’s trusted partner for records management and data protection
services, today announced the addition of X-ray On Demand to its
portfolio of specialized health information management services. This
new solution provides a scanning and digitization service for radiology
customers storing x-ray films with Iron Mountain, so that encrypted,
high resolution DICOM (Digital Imaging and Communications in Medicine)
images can be sent to a hospital’s PACS (Picture Archiving and
Communications System) via a secure connection.
X-ray On Demand allows radiologists to manage large analog x-ray
film libraries and PACS images in parallel. As a result, radiologists
can provide optimum levels of quality healthcare while operating as
cost-efficiently as possible.Moving x-rays off site frees up valuable
floor space for expanded revenue generating opportunities for
healthcare providers and reduces expenses associated with clerical
staff managing and hanging analog films.
In addition, X-ray On Demand saves time through faster, on-demand
delivery of high resolution images, allows for side-by-side study
comparisons and improves productivity since radiologists can more
accurately review a greater number of patient studies when presented
electronically alongside new digital modalities.Images can also be
manipulated by radiologists, as needed, and the service enables remote
diagnosis.
“Radiology rooms and film libraries occupy valuable space in
healthcare facilities,” said Mark Rempe, vice president of Iron
Mountain’s Health Information Services. “As the need for physical space
becomes increasingly important for the healthcare industry, hospitals,
clinics and outpatient centers would benefit by moving their x-rays off
site.In addition to freeing up space, X-ray On Demand delivers DICOM
images directly to PACS, and drives down costs by converting only the
prior analog film that is needed, when it is needed.”
