Iron Mountain Opens Flagship Shredding Facility in Jersey City, NJ
Company Also Launches Online Shredding Laws Resource to Help
Customers Address Ever-Changing Records Management and Disposal
Regulations
BOSTON, MA and JERSEY CITY, NJ, May 11, 2006 – Iron Mountain
Incorporated (NYSE:IRM), the global leader in information protection
and storage services, today announced the grand opening of its flagship
Secure Shredding facility in Jersey City, NJ. Believed to be the
largest of its kind in the world, the facility offers the latest
shredding technology available to help tri-state organizations manage
the secure destruction and disposal of sensitive records and
information, and also comply with ever-changing shredding regulations.
Through a network of facilities and special mobile shredding vehicles,
Iron Mountain offers Secure Shredding services in all major U.S. and
Canadian markets, and recently expanded to the United Kingdom through
the acquisition of London-based Secure Destruction Services Ltd.
“Secure shredding has become an essential part of a company's
compliant records management program due to increasing regulations and
consumer demands for protection of personal information,” said Barry
Payne, senior vice president of Iron Mountain's Secure Shredding
business. “The addition of our Jersey City facility comes just in time
to support the growing demand for our services in the New
York-metropolitan market, as businesses there seek to comply with New
Jersey's new Identity Theft Protection Act and other state and federal
information disposal regulations.”
Secure destruction and disposal of corporate information is critical
not only for protecting consumer privacy, but also for mitigating
corporate exposure to legal risk. Information held beyond its required
retention period often incurs unnecessary storage costs and becomes
vulnerable to risks of theft, misuse or inadvertent disclosure.
Iron Mountain's flagship facility in Jersey City will help companies
mitigate risks by shredding 200 tons of paper per day and up to 48,000
tons per year. In addition to paper, Iron Mountain's Secure Shredding
services also destroy other media, including x-rays, microfiche/film,
computer disks, cartridges, videotapes, CDs, and DVDs. Protection of
sensitive materials is ensured through strict security practices and
secure chain-of-custody. A certificate of destruction verifies that
materials have been destroyed.
In conjunction with its facility opening in Jersey City, Iron
Mountain also announced the launch of its online shredding laws
resource, which is designed to help businesses address the multitude of
state and federal statutes and regulations governing records management
and disposal. The resource will be updated regularly and is available
