In September 2015, Iron Mountain launched LGBTA@IM – our new Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Ally Employee Resource Group (ERG) that aims to provide visibility for LGBT employees and empower an inclusive culture where all Mountaineers and their allies can feel valued, connected and safe to be their true selves, regardless of sexual orientation, gender identity or gender expression.
At Iron Mountain, we believe that our differences should be celebrated and that an inclusive culture inspires creativity and innovation. LGBTA@IM will lead advocacy for LGBT equality in the workplace and encourage each of us to reach our full potential and do amazing work together.
“Iron Mountain has always taken the safety of its employees very seriously. Now, with the launch of LGBTA@IM, our hope is that ‘emotional safety’ will become just as important and visible for our LGBT community and many allies, so everyone can bring their whole selves to work, without concern,” said Jeff Lawrence, Senior Vice President & Treasurer, and an Executive Sponsor for LGBTA@IM.
With 75 members and growing, LGBTA@IM has already been hard at work. Here is some of what they’ve done so far:
- Joined Pride In Our Workplace(PIOW), an organization of more than 30 companies with local offices in the Boston area
- Co-sponsored an educational Webinar to learn more about Reverend Dr. Pauli Murray, an accomplished human rights activist, and Iron Mountain’s partnership with the Pauli Murray Center for History and Social Justice through our Living Legacy initiative
- Attended networking and developmental events sponsored by Catalyst, one of our Inclusion & Diversity partners
- Participated in a speaker event with Mary Bonauto, GLAAD Civil Rights Project Director and attorney who represented plaintiffs in Obergefell vs. Hodges, one of the same-sex marriage cases before the U.S. Supreme Court that led to the ruling establishing marriage equality across the country
