The Internet of Things (IoT) has been labeled as “the next Industrial Revolution” because of the way it will change the way people live, work, entertain, and travel, as well as how governments and businesses interact with the world. The IoT has many different definitions, but Gartner defines it as a network of physical objects that contain embedded technology to communicate and sense or interact with their internal states or the external environment. A recent article by Iron Mountain’s John Boruvka explores the challenges posed by IoT in three main areas: 1) Data Security (Device Control), 2) Data Privacy, and 3) Service Sustainability. One factor to consider is the proper disposal of these devices – particularly those that contain data.
