Constructing just one computer and monitor from scratch takes a huge environmental toll, requiring 530 pounds of fossil fuel, 48 pounds of chemicals, and 1.5 tons of water, according to the Electronics TakeBack Coalition. Refurbishing that same computer and monitor will not only prevent additional resource extraction, but can potentially generate revenue through resale on the secondary market.
