Efficiently managing and digitising thousands of assets for a high-profile docuseries
RSA Films, a globally renowned production company, partnered with Iron Mountain Media and Archival Services to support the creation of Netflix’s Robbie Williams docuseries. With nearly 4,000 archival assets spanning multiple legacy media formats and limited metadata, RSA Films faced challenges in efficiently identifying and digitising relevant content under tight time and budget constraints. Iron Mountain Media & Archival Services provided a dedicated research space, expert media management, and advanced digitisation solutions, enabling RSA Films to strategically select and access critical footage. This collaboration ensured the seamless integration of archival content, maximising the impact of the docuseries.
Situation
RSA Films was commissioned by Netflix to produce a docuseries on British pop icon Robbie Williams. To bring the project to life, they needed access to nearly 4,000 archival assets, stored across various legacy formats, with limited metadata. Identifying and digitising the right content quickly and efficiently was a major challenge due to time constraints and budget considerations. Without a streamlined process, the production risked wasting resources on irrelevant material.
Solution
Iron Mountain Media and Archival Services provided RSA Films with a dedicated research space within its studio, enabling efficient content review. The team digitised and enhanced metadata, improving content discoverability and management. They also facilitated remote access by integrating the archive into Iron Mountain’s Smart Vault, ensuring seamless retrieval and selection of footage. Additionally, the team worked closely with post-production partners to ensure proper formatting and timely delivery of critical media assets.
Client Value
Iron Mountain Media and Archival Services offered an excellent end-to-end solution in order for us to access, view, and digitise nearly 4000 assets of previously unseen Robbie Williams footage. The range of these assets were vast, from hard drives to 30mm film, and all assets were pristinely archived and stored, meaning that even decades-old hard drives still worked! They were always on-hand to help us meet our incredibly tight deadlines and offered excellent customer service. They have a great team of experts who clearly love what they do. This was a huge job, and without them, the series could not have had the depth of incredible footage that it did. I look forward to working with them again.
