Beverage brewing experts

Spendrups Bryggeri is Sweden’s biggest and most prominent family-owned, independent brewery and the driving force behind brands such as Heineken and other carefully selected beers, wine, spirits, bottled water, cider and soft drinks. Largely automated, supply chain operations are managed from its central warehouse in Grängesberg. Some 45,000 pallets of beverage products are efficiently stacked up to 38 metres high ready for distribution to shops, restaurants and the state-run Systembolaget retail chain. In accordance with just-in-time logistics, pallets are automatically delivered to pick-up points for drivers to load themselves.

Adapting for unplanned delays

With delayed renovation work taking down one of its eight production lines Spendrups quickly needed to find a scalable warehousing solution leading up to Midsummer, a time when people gather to celebrate the summer solstice. “June is a particularly busy period with typically twice as many truck deliveries,” says Jimmy Nylander, Operations Manager at Spendrups Bryggeri. “Normally, it’s not a problem but lost production capacity meant we had to build up a large buffer supply of tinned and bottled drinks. However, we’d run out of storage space at our Grängesberg facility.”
