Data center industry predictions for 2023

The data center market is continuing to expand in 2023, and with that comes their impact on the environment. In an article for Data Centre Review, Chris Pennington, Director of Energy and Sustainability, shares his predictions for 2023 and how decarbonization targets, supply chain instability and the energy crisis will contribute.

“As sustainability and responsible technology usage steers the agenda [for data center growth], we are now operating in a business landscape where adhering to ESG principles makes good business sense, as shifting cultural attitudes pave the way for regulatory change,” said Pennington. “Operators and customers alike should look to the opportunities 2023 brings, to future-proof their businesses and build strong, collaborative partnerships as the climate conversation continues.”

The energy crisis and geo-political events last year have further proven the need for sustainable design, renewable energy sources and tracking, Scope 3 emissions reporting, and supply chain and partner evaluation.
