In early 2024, Iron Mountain launched an integrated Media & Archive Services organization, bringing together Iron Mountain Entertainment Services (IMES) and Library and Archival Services to provide comprehensive archival preservation services to customers who expect specialist support.

It didn’t take long for that new organization to make a splash in the entertainment industry, joining giants like “Oppenheimer” and “The Color Purple” as an award winner at the 2024 Lumiere Awards, presented by the Advanced Imaging Society on February 9. The awards recognize outstanding international achievement in the creation of immersive storytelling using advanced visual technologies. Media & Archive Services was the proud recipient of the “Heritage Award for Media Preservation” thanks to a long-term partnership with Google Cloud’s Media and Entertainment team.

“For ten years, we’ve collaborated with Google Cloud to ensure that, together, we’re developing the most relevant, timely and technologically advanced media preservation technology offerings to both of our customers,” said Lance Podell, who leads Media & Archive Services. “This award recognizes the collaborative development of our Smart Vault solution on Google Cloud.”

More about Smart Vault

Smart Vault is the digital equivalent of our physical media storage solution: we store media assets and return them to clients exactly as received. It has best-in-class security and data integrity, allowing customers to search, access and retrieve historically using on-premise hardware

“Smart Vault on Google Cloud Platform opens an entire new territory for Smart Vault and Media & Archive Services due to all of the tools available in the cloud,” said Greg Maratea, the Iron Mountain innovator behind Smart Vault. Lance added, “Our deployment of Smart Vault in the cloud - specifically Google Cloud Platform - allows us to use the latest AI enrichment and search without any loss of data security and integrity.”

Smart Vault is an example of a solution all Iron Mountain customers can more easily benefit from thanks to the new Media & Archive Services. For many companies, their corporate archives have recently been recognized as highly valuable, offering organizations the opportunity to monetize historic assets, foster employee engagement and pride, celebrate anniversaries, and support future innovation that’s based on the past.

“We’ll see legacy IMES customers benefit from Iron Mountain’s full suite of capabilities, but we also expect non-Entertainment customers to realize the immediate value of these highly specialized services they may not have known they need,” Lance said. “A further benefit is the protection of corporate intellectual property, helping our customers mitigate risk.”
