According to a new report from the United Nations Telecommunication Union, nearly 45 tons of…According to a new report from the United Nations Telecommunication Union, nearly 45 tons of electronics were retired in 2016 – and only about 20 percent of it is known to have been recycled. The report puts the value of the raw materials in that e-waste at approximately $55 billion. The material that winds up in a landfill can expose people to hazardous metals and compounds. Unfortunately, the trend is upward – with about four percent more e-waste being produced every year.
