The data integrity project gave us the ability to be able to prove the worth of our program, in a way that then started getting more attention and more investment and more buy- in from our stakeholders. CSC has been a leader in the IT industry for more than 50 years. With nearly $14 billion dollars in annual revenue and 87,000 professionals servicing virtually every industry across the globe.

When I started at CSC in July 2009 we still didn't have a global policy we still didn't have a global records retention schedule. A lot of the foundational pieces were still missing and so I had to get it done in a hurry. And to actually go and lift the lids on all of those boxes of records would have been far too labor-intensive and really not worth the money. The data integrity project and the output from that was part of a portfolio of results. Within a year we had mapped 80% of our hard copy records to the retention schedule and we had started destroying boxes in storage and we were starting to see cost savings.

Plus, we applied this methodology not only to the boxes that were in storage with Iron Mountain, but to boxes that we had in company help warehouses. And we were able to start destroying some of those records as well. We enabled close to a million dollars worth of savings in real estate by opening up the floor space in these warehouses and allowing for consolidation.

And that's one of the nice things about it is it's an easy metric. And when extraordinary things come up and we need a little extra help they'll go the extra mile for us. It's lead to a very fruitful sense of collaboration and partnership.

"The data integrity project gave us the ability to be able to prove the worth of our program."
